Located at the stunning EmpowerU Equine ranch
located in Nipawin, SK, Canada 🇨🇦
Hi, I'm Lisa...
...and I'm the mom of an angel too. I lost my 17-year-old daughter Katie in December of 2015. Katie LOVED horses, so when the opportunity of attending an equine-assisted wellness weekend arose, I jumped at it!
I am a certified grief educator, author, and group facilitator and I will be your host for this incredible experience.
I help bereaved mothers manage the pain and heart break of child loss and give them the tools they need to start living again.
My experience at EmpowerU Equine...
🗣 I really didn't know what to expect when I attended a women's retreat at EmpowerU. I had no experience when it came to working with horses.
Imagine the confidence I felt when I was able to lead a 1500-lb horse along a complicated course, have them back up, turn around, and figure our way out of difficult situations!
It was definitely therapeutic, but not in the traditional sense.I didn't even realize how healing the groundwork and exercises were right away. I learned to be mindful and focused, and recognized that I can do really hard things!

What participants are saying...
My path was starting to get dark again and I feel so much lighter now.
It's heartbreaking that we all had to meet under these circumstances, but I'm so grateful we were able to come together for this event.
This retreat helped me find my strength again. I feel happier and I'm sleeping better, too!
~ Gwen Sinclair, Cameron's mom
I would absolutely recommend this retreat! The setting was perfect in every way. The activities were a good mix of movement and quiet-time; physical and thoughtful. I felt the activities challenged me in ways I had been resistant to. Being with other Angel Moms in such a safe space was a gift.
~Janice Henwood, mom of Olivia
I hated to leave! I felt heard, loved, and supported by the other Angel Moms.
~Angel Wellman, mom of Chloe
The retreat made me realize that healing will be lifelong, but it doesn’t have to be dark and lonely. I absolutely recommend it!
~ Shauna DeJong, mom of Dylan

Why horses?
Horses are innately accepting, tolerant, kind, respectful, honest, fair, nonjudgmental, compassionate, and forgiving. Horses require us to be present and mindful when working with them. They help us become better people, parents, partners, and friends. A horse can be our greatest teacher, for horses have no egos, and they
manifest unparalleled compassion.
** This retreat focuses on groundwork, however there is an option to ride a horse at the end of the retreat.

Questions you may have...
Q: What is the refund policy?
A: As you can imagine, planning an event like this takes lots of time, energy and resources. A 100% refund is possible if you cancel by Aug 29, and a 50% refund is possible if you cancel by Sept 14. After Sept 14, no refunds will be offered.
Q: What kind of footwear is best around horses?
A: Closed toe shoes are a MUST for safety reasons. Running shoes/sneakers are fine but many of them are made with mesh and you may find that the sand from the arena gets inside your shoes. Rubber boots are my recommendation, if you have them.
Q: What's the weather like in Nipawin at this time of year?
A: This is northern Saskatchewan and things could be nippy in Sept/Oct! Lows average around -2C (28 F) and the highs for the day are around +10C (50F), but it can be very mild too! I suggest many layers that you can add or take off. You might want to bring wind pants and a light insulated jacket for outdoors and horse work. If the weather permits, I'd like to do some nature hikes and maybe some sky gazing at the Northern Lights! (If you have cold feet like me, bring some slippers too!)
Q: What about travel to the ranch?
A: Getting to the ranch is your responsibility. If you are looking for a carpool group, let Lisa know and she can put you in touch with others traveling from Regina or Saskatoon.
Q: Can you accomodate particpants with celiac disease or nut allergies?
A: The kitchen and facility are not gluten or nut-free, but meals are prepared with gluten-free and lactose-free ingredients when possible.
Q: Does each participant have their own bathroom?
A: Each participant will have their own bedroom or loft space, but bathrooms are shared. The ranch house is a beautiful home with 4 bathrooms that are shared by all attendees. There is also a fifth bathroom in the arena.
Q: How do I know if I'm ready for something like this?
A: If you are ready to work in a group and be present for the horses and others, then you are ready. If you are unsure, please contact Lisa at Lisa@LisaKBoehm.com
